My Experience with What The Fat? LCHF Diet 0

Following a Low Carb Healthy Fat lifestyle for the last year has been an interesting experiment. Essentially the macro-nutrient (protein/carbohydrate/fat) make up of your diet is changed and it swings the balance around from traditional dietary recommendations where you keep the protein content similar, increase intake of healthy fat and restrict carbohydrates.

I initiated this in February last year having read the What the Fat book – a good read that explains the science in an easy to understand format, includes recipes and shopping tips. This is more a lifestyle than a diet as it has shown to help long term with diabetes, weight management, migraine, inflammation and many other potential issues. Often people find they are less hungry and have more energy. It is not as extreme as paleo or keto.

It is a big mind shift adding fat into the diet when we have been told to limit fat for the last 50 years. And what will it do to our cholesterol levels? Well here’s my blood results from before and after.

Some key points to remember –

  • If you add the fat in and don’t get rid of the carb you will put on weight
  • If you increase your protein too much your body converts that protein to sugar and stores it as fat.
  • Go for low human interference foods – processed foods tend to have more carb and cause inflammation.
  • If you’re not familiar with carbohydrate content of foods there lots of helpful apps you can download on your phone that help.
  • MOST importantly EVERYONE will have days where you deviate and eat or drink what you shouldn’t – that’s normal as long as its not several days of the week!

So dive into the new recipes in the latest What The Fat? Recipe book, and enjoy tasty, healthy food or grab a copy of the original What the Fat or What the Fast books and learn how to increase your energy, feel better and manage your weight.
